This shift represented a significant technological and procedural evolution, necessitating that surgeons undergo extensive new training and healthcare facilities invest in sophisticated, purpose-built equipment to facilitate these minimally invasive techniques.
The transition towards laparoscopic methods offered substantial clinical advantages for patients. By minimising the size of the surgical access points, the technique significantly reduced the physical trauma associated with operations. This led to a range of improved patient outcomes, including:
